Yamunotri is widely famous as 1st dham of famous Char Dham yatra. It is a source of one’s char dham yatra journey, everyone starts his/her journey from this place before reaching Gangotri and Kedarnath, thereafter the journey ends in Badrinath. All these four places are of great importance in the Hindu religion. Every Hindu desires to visit all these char dham at least once in his/her life. Hindus also believe that by visiting these religious places they can achieve “Moksha” (Salvation).

Yamunotri is the source of River Yamuna which represents goddess Yamuna. This place is situated at an altitude of 3,293 metres, approx 10,804 ft in the Garhwal Himalayas. Many pilgrims visit Yamunotri from all across the India and world every year. The nearest town to this place is Uttarkashi which is at the distance of 30 Kilometers. The main attraction of Yamunotri is the temple devoted to the goddess Yamuna who is the sister of Yamraaj(God of death) and daughter of Suriya Dev(Sun). The temple of Yamuna is situated on the left bank of the Yamuna River, and this temple was built by Maharaja Pratap Shah of Tehri Garhwal.
The main attraction of this place is the hot water springs gushing out from the mountain cavities. There are many things in Yamunotri that draw the attention of people like Surya Kund and Divya Shila. Devotees who come here cook rice and potatoes, tied in a cloth, by dipping them in the hot water springs. Later, devotees take this cooked potatoes and rice back home as prashaad.
The opening time of the temple in Yamunotri is 6 am and closing time is 8 pm. The door of the temple opens in the month of May and closes after October, devotees can visit the temple only after the month of May. The Arti times are 6:30 pm and 7:30 pm, a slight change could be there due to some reasons.
How to reach Yamunotri?
There are various ways through that you could reach Yamunotri. The most preferred way is to hire a Cab or Taxi. You could easily hire a Cab with driver from Hardwar which is one of the holy places of Hindus. If you don’t have a budget to hire a Cab then you can take a bus from Haridwar bus stand. But, this is not a desired option because there is only one bus which leaves for Yamunotri from Haridwar in a day.

These packages vary according to your need and demand, if you are travelling with your whole family and friends then you need to book a minibus. If you have planned to visit Yamunotri then don’t forget to bring warm clothes and shawl as the weather of Yamunotri is very cold even in the summer season. Also, bring some food and water if you have children with you because the journey from ground to Yamunotri mountain is very long and hectic. You will need some snacks on your way to Yamunotri. When you reach Yamunotri, don’t forget to prepare rice by submerging rice, tied in a cloth, into the gushing hot water and later distribute it among family members and friends as a prashad.
